Vertigo & Dizziness Treatment in Irving TX

Balance Restored. Spinning Stopped. Find the Cause — Not Just a Diagnosis.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 456 Five-Star Reviews · 30 Years · 30,000+ Patients · Irving & Las Colinas TX

Vertigo and dizziness can be completely disabling — making it impossible to drive, work, or move through daily life without fear of falling. Most patients are told they have BPPV or inner ear dysfunction and given repositioning maneuvers or medication. Many improve temporarily and then relapse — because the underlying cervical and neurological contributors have never been addressed.

At Ethos Chiropractic, Longevity and Wellness, Dr. Jason Black evaluates and treats vertigo, dizziness, and balance disorders with a comprehensive approach that identifies every contributor — vestibular, cervical, and neurological — and treats the cause, not just the episode.

As Seen On:

The Cervical Spine Connection to Vertigo

What most patients and even many providers don’t fully appreciate is how powerfully the cervical spine influences balance and spatial orientation. The upper cervical spine — particularly C1 and C2 — contains some of the highest concentration of proprioceptive nerve endings in the body. These receptors continuously send position signals to the brain that are integrated with vestibular (inner ear) and visual input to maintain balance.

When the upper cervical spine is misaligned, injured, or restricted — from whiplash, poor posture, degeneration, or accumulated stress — the proprioceptive signals become distorted. The brain receives conflicting information from the cervical spine, inner ear, and eyes — producing the sensation of spinning, rocking, or imbalance we call vertigo.

This is why so many vertigo patients also have neck pain, headaches, and a history of head or neck trauma. And why correcting the upper cervical spine — not just repositioning crystals — produces the most lasting results.

Dr. Jason Black’s Approach to Vertigo

Vertigo and Dizziness Conditions We Evaluate and Treat

  • Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV) — calcium carbonate crystal displacement in the semicircular canals causing brief, intense spinning with position changes — treated with repositioning maneuvers and cervical correction
  • Cervicogenic Vertigo (Cervical Vertigo) — dizziness and imbalance originating from upper cervical proprioceptive dysfunction — the most commonly missed and most effectively treated form of vertigo with chiropractic care
  • Post-Whiplash Vertigo — vertigo and balance dysfunction following auto accident cervical injury from disrupted upper cervical proprioception
  • Vestibular Hypofunction — reduced inner ear function causing chronic imbalance, oscillopsia, and dizziness — managed with vestibular rehabilitation and cervical correction
  • Meniere’s Disease — endolymphatic hydrops producing episodic vertigo, tinnitus, and hearing fluctuation — evaluated for cervical and autonomic contributors
  • Labyrinthitis and Vestibular Neuritis — inflammatory conditions of the inner ear and vestibular nerve producing acute and chronic dizziness
  • Migraine-Associated Vertigo — episodic vertigo associated with migraine, often with a cervical trigger component
  • Concussion-Related Dizziness — post-concussion vestibular dysfunction and cervical proprioceptive disruption producing persistent dizziness and imbalance
  • Tinnitus Associated with Vertigo — ringing, buzzing, or fullness in the ear accompanying vestibular dysfunction — evaluated for cervical and TMJ contributors
  • Balance Disorders and Fall Risk — chronic imbalance from multifactorial vestibular, cervical, and neurological contributors — addressed with combined cervical correction and balance rehabilitation

How We Evaluate Vertigo at Ethos

Dr. Jason Black personally conducts every vertigo evaluation. Our examination differentiates between vestibular, cervical, and neurological causes — a distinction that determines the appropriate treatment and is often missed in standard medical workups.

Your evaluation includes:

  • Detailed Vertigo History: Episode duration, triggers, position sensitivity, associated symptoms (tinnitus, hearing loss, nausea, headache, neck pain), history of head or neck trauma, and prior treatments.
  • Vestibular Testing: Dix-Hallpike test, Roll test, Head Impulse test, and Romberg test to identify BPPV canal involvement and vestibular hypofunction.
  • Upper Cervical Examination: Assessment of C1-C2 alignment, atlanto-axial mobility, suboccipital muscle tension, and cervicogenic vertigo provocation tests — including the cervical flexion-rotation test.
  • Neurological Assessment: Cranial nerve examination, nystagmus evaluation, gait assessment, and coordination testing to screen for central causes requiring medical referral.
  • Balance and Proprioception Testing: Single-leg stance, tandem gait, and dynamic balance assessment to quantify vestibular and proprioceptive impairment.
  • Postural Analysis: Forward head posture measurement and cervical curve assessment contributing to upper cervical proprioceptive dysfunction.
  • Thermography: Infrared scanning to identify cervical and autonomic nerve dysfunction patterns associated with vestibular symptoms.

How Ethos Treats Vertigo and Dizziness

Our approach addresses the vestibular system, the cervical spine contributors, and the neurological dysfunction simultaneously:

  • Canalith Repositioning Maneuvers — Epley, Semont, and Barbecue Roll maneuvers for BPPV — performed precisely based on which canal is involved and the direction of nystagmus identified during examination
  • Upper Cervical Chiropractic Adjustments — precise, low-force correction of C1-C2 misalignment restoring normal proprioceptive signaling from the upper cervical spine. Often the single most effective intervention for cervicogenic vertigo and for patients with recurrent BPPV who have an upper cervical component
  • Class IV Medical Laser Therapy — reduces cervical and vestibular nerve inflammation, supports inner ear tissue health, and addresses neurological irritation contributing to chronic dizziness
  • Soft Tissue Therapy — MFR and ART — releases suboccipital muscle tension, upper cervical fascial restriction, and SCM trigger points that alter proprioceptive signaling and provoke vestibular symptoms
  • Vestibular Rehabilitation Exercises — condition-specific gaze stabilization, habituation, and balance retraining exercises that retrain the vestibular system and restore balance confidence
  • Corrective Exercise and Postural Correction — forward head posture correction and cervical stabilization to reduce the ongoing cervical proprioceptive dysfunction driving recurrent vertigo episodes
  • Functional Nutrition — for Meniere’s patients, dietary sodium management guidance and anti-inflammatory nutritional support targeting endolymphatic pressure
