Scoliosis Treatment in Irving TX

Improve Spinal Curvature. Reduce Pain. Slow Progression — Without Surgery or Bracing.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 456 Five-Star Reviews · 30 Years · 30,000+ Patients · Irving & Las Colinas TX

A scoliosis diagnosis does not have to mean a lifetime of pain, progressive deformity, or eventual surgery. While conventional medicine often offers only observation, bracing, or spinal fusion — chiropractic and rehabilitative care provides a meaningful, non-invasive path to reducing curvature, relieving pain, stabilizing the spine, and improving quality of life.

At Ethos Chiropractic, Longevity and Wellness, Dr. Jason Black evaluates and treats scoliosis patients of all ages — from adolescents caught early to adults with long-standing curves and associated pain — with a comprehensive, precision approach tailored to each patient’s specific curve pattern, age, and goals.

Understanding Scoliosis — And Why Early Treatment Matters

Scoliosis is a three-dimensional spinal deformity — not simply a sideways curve, but a complex rotation and lateral deviation of the vertebrae that alters the entire biomechanics of the spine, ribcage, pelvis, and surrounding musculature.

The critical factor in scoliosis management is timing. Curves that are identified and treated early — before skeletal maturity and while the spine still has plasticity — have the greatest potential for improvement and the best chance of avoiding progression to levels that require bracing or surgical intervention. Even in adults with established curves, meaningful reduction in pain, improvement in function, and stabilization of the curve are achievable with the right approach.

What most patients are not told is that the muscles on the concave side of the curve are chronically shortened and the muscles on the convex side are chronically lengthened — creating a powerful muscular force that actively pulls the spine further into the curve. Correcting this muscular imbalance is as important as correcting the spinal alignment itself.

Dr. Jason Black’s Approach to Scoliosis

Types of Scoliosis We Evaluate and Treat

  • Idiopathic Scoliosis — the most common form, accounting for 80% of cases, with unknown cause. Subdivided into infantile (0-3 years), juvenile (3-10 years), adolescent (10-18 years), and adult idiopathic scoliosis
  • Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis (AIS) — the most prevalent form, appearing during the growth spurt of puberty. Early intervention during this period produces the best outcomes for curve reduction and prevention of progression
  • Adult Degenerative Scoliosis (De Novo Scoliosis) — spinal curvature developing in adulthood from asymmetric disc degeneration, vertebral compression, and facet joint arthritis. Associated with significant pain and functional limitation
  • Congenital Scoliosis — structural vertebral anomalies present from birth — evaluated for appropriate conservative management alongside medical care
  • Neuromuscular Scoliosis — curvature associated with neurological or muscular conditions — evaluated and managed with a coordinated multidisciplinary approach
  • Postural Scoliosis — functional curvature from habitual asymmetric posture without structural vertebral rotation — highly responsive to chiropractic and corrective exercise
  • Post-Surgical Scoliosis — pain, adjacent segment degeneration, and functional limitation following spinal fusion — managed conservatively to improve comfort and function above and below the fusion

How We Evaluate Scoliosis at Ethos

Dr. Jason Black personally conducts every scoliosis evaluation. Our examination documents the curve pattern, identifies structural and functional contributors, and establishes a baseline for tracking progress over the course of care.

Your evaluation includes:

  • Detailed History: Age of onset, prior imaging and Cobb angle measurements, prior treatments, symptoms, activity level, family history, and growth status.
  • Postural and Visual Examination: Assessment of shoulder height, scapular symmetry, waist asymmetry, pelvic level, and trunk shift — the Adams Forward Bend Test to identify rotational prominence.
  • Spinal Palpation and Segmental Assessment: Identification of specific vertebral levels involved in the curve, areas of fixation, and compensatory curve patterns.
  • Muscle Length and Strength Testing: Assessment of the asymmetric muscular forces driving curve progression — identifying shortened concave side muscles and lengthened convex side muscles requiring targeted rehabilitation.
  • Digital X-Rays (when indicated): On-site imaging to measure Cobb angle, assess vertebral rotation, identify structural versus functional curve components, and establish a treatment baseline — available for $95 when clinically necessary.
  • Neurological Assessment: Evaluation of nerve function in patients with curves producing spinal cord or nerve root involvement.

Following your evaluation, Dr. Black will explain your curve pattern, what is driving it, and what a realistic treatment and outcome looks like for your specific case.

How Ethos Treats Scoliosis

Our Ethos Stacked Care™ approach to scoliosis addresses the spinal curvature, the muscular contributors, and the neurological dysfunction simultaneously:

  • Scoliosis-Specific Chiropractic Adjustments — precise adjustments targeting the specific vertebral rotations and lateral deviations of the individual curve pattern. Not generic spinal manipulation — targeted, side-specific corrections designed to reduce the three-dimensional scoliotic deformity
  • Scoliosis-Specific Exercise (SSE) — customized exercise protocols targeting the asymmetric muscular imbalances driving curve progression. Elongation and de-rotation exercises for the specific curve pattern, combined with core stabilization and postural training
  • Postural Correction and Spinal Remodeling — targeted traction, weighting, and postural training protocols to create corrective forces on the scoliotic curve and retrain the neuromuscular system to support improved spinal alignment
  • Class IV Medical Laser Therapy — reduces paraspinal muscle inflammation and tension on the concave side of the curve, relieves facet joint and disc pain associated with scoliotic loading, and supports tissue health in chronically compressed spinal structures
  • Soft Tissue Therapy — MFR and ART — releases the shortened, fibrotic musculature on the concave side of the curve that actively maintains and worsens the spinal deformity. Essential for achieving lasting structural change
  • PiezoWave Sound Wave Therapy — addresses myofascial trigger points and chronic paraspinal muscle tension associated with asymmetric scoliotic loading and pain
  • Functional Nutrition — bone density support, anti-inflammatory protocols, and connective tissue nutrition for patients with degenerative scoliosis and osteoporotic contributors
